What is a tank beer system?
A tank beer system is a way of storing and serving beer in bulk instead of using traditional kegs. The beer is delivered directly from the brewery to a hospitality venue and transferred into specially designed beer tanks. From these tanks, the beer is supplied directly to the bar and beer taps.
Tank beer systems are particularly suitable for bars, restaurants, stadiums, event venues and other locations with a high beer volume. By replacing multiple individual kegs with one larger beer tank, the system simplifies beer handling, reduces packaging and provides an efficient way to store and serve large volumes of beer.

How does a tank beer system work?
A modern Duotank tank beer system consists of one or more beer tanks, typically with capacities of 250, 500 or 1,000 litres. Inside each tank is a flexible, airtight beer inliner in which the beer is stored.
The beer itself does not come into contact with the tank wall. Instead, it remains completely enclosed inside the inliner. Compressed air is introduced into the space between the stainless-steel tank and the inliner. The air gently compresses the inliner and pushes the beer through the beer line towards the tap.
Because the compressed air never comes into direct contact with the beer, no additional CO₂ is required to push the beer from the tank to the tap. The beer remains separated from outside air throughout the process, helping to preserve the quality and characteristics intended by the brewery.
When the tank is empty, the used inliner is removed and replaced with a new one, preparing the tank for the next delivery.

When purchasing a tank beer system, do you need to buy the cooler and compressor from Duotank?
No, the Duotank cooler and compressor are not mandatory. The cooler itself is a standard water bath cooler, and the air compressor simply needs to operate oil‑free. Duotank even recommends sourcing these components from a local supplier to ensure faster and easier service.
What is the operating pressure of the system?
The maximum pressure at which a tank beer system operates is 3 bar, which is controlled by the safety valve. The actual operating pressure depends on the distance and height difference between the tank and the tap. In most cases, the system runs at an operating pressure of approximately 2 bar.
